All About Christmas in April * Greater Cleburne Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April Greater Cleburne is a 501(c) 3 non-profit volunteer organization that works in partnership with communities to rehabilitate homes for low-income, elderly and disabled residents of the Cleburne area. We are one of the newest affiliates of Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April USA, the national organization that builds partnerships such as ours to ensure vital home repair services are received by people truly in need. History In 1973, caring people in Midland, Texas saw that many of their low-and fixed-income neighbors were living in deplorable and unsafe conditions. The volunteer group led by an oil scout named Bobby Trimble decided to take action. Adopting the old idea of “barn-raising, they recruited volunteers to rehabilitate deteriorating homes within their community. One of the early recipients became so joyful that she referred to the volunteers efforts as feeling like having “Christmas in April!” The name “stuck” and sparked a spirit of volunteerism that has spread across the nation.
